Joining Community is a process through which we discern with you whether you are being called to life on community at Scargill House.
Community brings opportunities for growth and challenges too, and so it’s important that there is a sense of call to community and that the right balance of gifts, skills and experiences make up the Community. Please reflect and pray on whether you are being called to community at Scargill.
Then there are some things you need to know before applying:
- You will be asked to accept and agree to live by the Scargill Pathway Promises and to be actively involved in the daily rhythm of prayer, Community meetings and Community groups.
- You will have the opportunity to take on roles of responsibility, to grow in confidence and develop leadership and team-building skills whilst working as part of one, or a number of teams.
- As part of the Community you will share in the responsibility for preparing and leading our morning prayers.
- You will be expected to welcome and engage with our guests whilst you serve them at meals, support and lead afternoon walks and workshops including craft activities, participate in evening entertainment and much more.
- Sometimes you will be a part of the Host Team, which includes being responsible for guest and visitor needs, their programme, leading evening prayers, giving notices etc.
- Our weekly Community Day is when we share communion together and where our main gospel and community teaching takes place. This is also a time to openly and honestly, share and discuss our faith together as Community. We hope that you would have much to offer to the diversity of these conversations.
- Accommodation is provided as the nature of your work requires you to be resident here at Scargill House. You will be given your own room, meals are provided and you will receive a small monthly allowance (no salary is paid).
- Holiday entitlement starts with 20 days’ annual leave and 8 bank/public holidays in the first instance – these both form part of the overall holiday entitlement.
