A week during which Michael will explore the witness of five Christian leaders and writers down the ages, who speak empowering words of hope to our present troubled times. There is much to make us anxious in our troubled world, and we need a robust spirituality to flourish when times are hard.

During this week, Michael will draw from the wisdom of five people whom he has found to be eloquent voices of hope, helping him to journey deeply and honestly with God: Patrick of Ireland, Clare of Assisi, William J Seymour, Phyllis Tickle and Frederick Buechner.

Using their stories, together with insights from Scripture, poetry and music, Michael will explore how we can deepen our roots in God, so that we can thrive and adventure in a world of many challenges.

During this week, Michael will draw from the wisdom of five people whom he has found to be eloquent voices of hope, helping him to journey deeply and honestly with God: Patrick of Ireland who led so many to freedom despite his own traumatic wounds suffered as a slave; Clare of Assisi, who was in pain for much of her life, yet through her contemplative prayer she radiated light; William J Seymour who, despite racism, poverty and oppression pastored the revival in Azusa Street; Phyllis Tickle, who prayerfully used her skills as a respected historian to study the decline of the church, yet at the same time perceived a new emerging church; and Frederick Buechner, whose writings help us to examine our own, everyday lives and discover the treasures of God within them. Michael’s presentations will include times for conversation and reflection.
