Come to learn and have fun with watercolour painting. Scargill is beautiful at any time of year. However, the change of the season is a time to see God’s bounty, in all its glory. The days are a little shorter now; the colours richer and the air often has that edge. You’ll find blackberries in the Walled Garden and apples on the trees. We’ll be celebrating that in our paintings this weekend. Bring your watercolour paints with you and use your creative curiosity as we spend a weekend experimenting and learning together.

Jane Gamble

Jane is a watercolour artist, with a particular interest in sky, sea and the world around us. She loves, particularly, painting out of doors in all weathers, in a quick, immediate style. Born in Gloucestershire, Jane was encouraged, very early on, to draw what she saw. Her Great, great Grandfather, James had been an artist of note, so paints and pens were always available and trips to art galleries part of her upbringing. After school ended, in Lytham St Anne’s, instead of college, Jane went to Liberty in Regent Street, W1, to pursue design and specialised in European clothes in Oriental fabrics. This was the beginning of quite a thorough grounding in design, moving on to tiles, furniture and interiors. Then, out of nowhere, came a real yearning for landscape painting, inspired by masters such as Turner, Cezanne, and the Impressionists. Art college followed that, in Preston, but practice was the key, and she started to take paints wherever she went, and increased her studio work. Her first exhibition was in Aldeburgh in Suffolk, where she returned annually, for about six years. She has since exhibited at Snape Maltings and in various London galleries and she has regular clients around the world. In more recent times, Jane has taught children and adults how to paint, in classroom and one-to-one sessions, and in outdoor settings. She continues to head to Cornwall, though, every year, to paint the sea.
