A chance to slow down and look closely, opening our eyes to surprising and revealing details in works of art from the Middle Ages to the present. This week, join art historian Debbie Lewer and Scargill Chaplain Annie Naish as we attend to the overlooked, the marginal and the apparently incidental details in a wide range of works of visual art.
We often look for the ‘big picture’, particularly when we think about God at work in our world. But what about the
smaller things? We’ll explore together how both art and scripture draw our attention to sometimes unexpected, illuminating details, that can change everything. We’ll rediscover what certain – often very ordinary – objects and symbols meant to people in the past and use our imaginations to engage what we see with the details of our own lives.
There will be space for creative prayer and reflection, seeking to listen for the voice of God in these minutiae.
