International Community Volunteer Programme
Scargill’s community is made up of people from the UK and volunteers from across the world. Volunteers from outside of the UK join us on our International Community Volunteer Programme. Together we represent Christians from many different countries, traditions and denominations.
If you are interested in joining us as an International Community Volunteer there are some things you need to know before getting in touch.
- Through our International Community Volunteer Programme we’re able to offer a limited number of placements to those wishing to join us from outside the UK. You’d be serving alongside Community Members and would be an integral part of the Community, immersed in all aspects of community life.
- You must be a committed Christian to join the International Community Volunteer Programme at Scargill.
- You need to have a good standard of written and spoken English to be eligible for a place on the programme.
- There is an induction programme, regular supervision, pastoral support and two reviews.
- The International Community Volunteer Programme offers placements of up to 12 months.
- We do not accept applications for this programme from those with young families
- You will be asked to accept and agree to live by the Scargill Pathway Promises and to be actively involved in the daily rhythm of prayer, community meetings and community groups.
- You will have the opportunity to take on roles of responsibility, to grow in confidence and develop leadership and team-building skills whilst working as part of one, or a number of teams.
- As part of the Community you will share in the responsibility for preparing and leading our morning prayers.
- You will be expected to welcome and engage with our guests whilst you serve them at meals, support and lead afternoon walks and workshops including craft activities, evening entertainment and much more.
- Sometimes you will be a part of the Host Team, which includes being responsible for guest and visitor needs, their programme, leading evening prayers, giving notices etc.
- Accommodation is provided as the nature of your work requires you to be resident here at Scargill House. You will be given your own room, meals are provided and you will receive a small monthly allowance (no salary is paid).
- Holiday entitlement starts with 20 days’ annual leave and 8 bank/public holidays in the first instance – these both form part of the overall holiday entitlement.
Visa
Those wishing to take advantage of this opportunity would need to ensure that they have in place a valid visa prior to travelling to the UK to begin the placement. Typically, this involves the applicant applying for a Charity Worker visa (Temporary Work) with sponsorship of the visa provided by Scargill Movement.
Scargill has a vigorous application process for those seeking sponsorship. We seek references from employers, pastors and friends, as well as evidence of finances. You will need to pay your NHS surcharge, administration fee and flight costs.
