[This is a hybrid event with guests both in-house and online]
This weekend we celebrate a modern addition to the calendar, probably introduced to appease fathers who feel left out by not having their own special day. Actually, of course, there has long been a special Father’s Day from the Sabbath created by God for the Jews, to the everyday invitation by Jesus to go into your room, close the door and speak to your loving Father.
Earlier this year we tackled the subject of ‘Mothers in the Bible.’ This weekend fathers are in the spotlight. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Included are such interesting questions as the likelihood of Isaac sending a card to his dad had it been possible, why Eli was such rubbish at controlling his sons, Jacob’s weakness in showing favouritism, what a distraught Joseph might have said to Jesus after his twelve year old’s worrying disappearance during the festival, and what fuelled Jairus to abandon his dignity enough to beg mercy for his daughter from the only one who could possibly help. Jesus and his father at Gethsemane? The drama to end all dramas. A short dialogue that must have come close to breaking a father’s heart.
Do come and join us. Should be most interesting!
