With less than half the population now identifying as even nominally Christian, and churches hemorrhaging members for decades, we must ask how Christian faith and community can be reformed for a post-Christian age. This course explores how the church might be more compelling and inclusive, more spiritually intelligent, more connected, and more grown-up and relevant to the needs of a broken world. It’s an obvious fact that the church has overwhelmingly lost its audience in the evolving 21st century. Wider society is bored by religion and feels no continuing need of ‘God’ explanations for life’s big questions. Meanwhile, many in the church long for more grown-up approaches to communal life, liturgy and faith in a scientific and digital world.

With multimedia presentations and stimulating talks, this retreat considers how the church might change and evolve to reconnect with the spiritual longings and aspirations of society.
